The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) is a professional student society for fire protection engineering. The University of Maryland has the only Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) fire protection engineering program in the US. The University as holds one of two graduate programs in the country. This means we are a very unique department.

SFPE members are given to chance to interact with fellow fire protection engineering students as well as professionals in the fire field. Meetings are held each month where a guest speaker from the fire protection engineering field speaks with students on a “hot” topic in the fire protection discipline.
