Jan Sengers: Celebrating 50 Years of Service to UMD

Please join us for a reception to celebrate Distinguished University Research Professor and Distinguished University Professor Emeritus Jan V. Sengers' 50 years of outstanding contributions to the excellence of research and education at the University of Maryland, College Park.

In January of 1968, Dr. Sengers joined UMD as a faculty member in the Institute for Molecular Physics (currently the Institute for Physical Science and Technology), and then became an Affiliate Professor in both Chemical and Mechanical Engineering Departments. He served as Director of the Chemical Physics Program (1978-1985) and as Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering (1994 to 1999) as well.

Dr. Sengers made outstanding contributions to the interdisciplinary mission and international recognition of UMD. In particular, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Burgers Program for Fluid Dynamics, creating a successful collaborative exchange program with the J. M. Burgers Centre in The Netherlands.
